To president Trump and Vice president Kamala
To President Trump and his running mate JD Vance, I congratulate you on your victory. As a future vote, I am glad that people took action when I was unable to. I look forward to 4 more years of peace, prosperity and goodness for all. I believe you will continue to honor your commitments to life, liberty and the constitution. I thank you for your wonderful campaign. It was a joy to watch and see your policy unfold.
To vice President Kamala and former running mate Tim Walz. I thank you for your graceful concession. It takes a lot of strength, and I expect and applaud that for a former candidate of the commander in chief of the United States.
You put in a lot of work on your campaign, and I appreciate the time and effort. Though we may disagree on things, I am glad to have watched the show. So for now and the next four years. I welcome our returning president Donald J. Trump. I hope for a bright future for everyone. And to those grieving, I only have compassion. Thank you.

"Let's be honest, it was a terrible night last night. It was a terrible night for women, for children, for the hundreds of thousands of immigrants who make this country go. For healthcare, for our climate, for science, for journalism, for justice, for free speech. It was a terrible night for poor people, for the middle class, for seniors who rely on social security, for our allies in Ukraine, for NATO, for the truth, for democracy, and decency, and it was a terrible night for everyone who voted against him, and guess what? It was a bad night for everyone who voted for him, too — you just don't realize it yet."

Reflections on Trump's Latest Victory and Its Impact on Political Dynamics
Reflections on Trump’s Latest Victory Donald Trump’s recent electoral win has brought about a markedly different atmosphere compared to his previous victories. This time, there is no seismic jolt reverberating through society. Polling indicates that this election outcome is among the most widely recognized as legitimate in the past quarter-century. The responses from those who opposed him appear…

Been keeping our eyes on news regarding the racist text messages that targeted Black Americans a day after the U.S. elections. New messages have now also targeted Hispanics and members of the LBGTQ community.
Here's a Medium article I wrote on what's known so far and some of my thoughts concerning what I'm calling, 'terror messaging.'

How could it happen...again?
Tumblr media
November 11, 2024
Future historians will scratch their heads in wonder that the American electorate would choose a convicted felon, adjudicated rapist, pathological liar, unrepentant grifter, brazen conman and former president who was impeached twice and whose administration was a cesspool of corruption and incompetence to lead their country a second time. While Democrats will spend years trying to figure out exactly how it all went so wrong. In the meantime, here are some possible reasons.
• Gender and race were determinative. A woman of color was simply a hill too high for many racist and misogynist white voters. And a woman of any color more than a lot of Latino men could tolerate. Check out these stats:
Latino men, 2020: Biden 59%; Trump 36% Latino men, 2024: Harris 45%; Trump 53%
• The Harris campaign decided not to differentiate her from centrist President Biden, whose unpopularity was abundantly clear. Concludes Boston College historian Heather Cox Richardson:
There is no doubt that a key factor in voters' swing to Trump is that they associated the inflation of the post-pandemic months with Biden and turned the incumbents out.
• Despite her public support for unions, Harris provided few reasons for working class Americans who supported Trump to vote for her (no Medicare for All, no rent caps). Instead, she aimed her New Way Forward exclusively at the middle class.
• The younger voters Harris's campaign was counting on let the Dems down. Biden's 24-point advantage in 2020 with Gen Z voters (aged 18-29) shrank to 13.
• The abortion issue did not mobilize an army of angry women and move them to the polls as expected. Women's percentage of the total vote rose only marginally from 2020. And the share of women who voted for Harris did not increase from Biden's 2020 level.
• The surprising apathy of Democrats. Their turnout for Harris was 13 million less than it was for Biden four years earlier.
• Finally, there's been an anti-incumbent wave in recent elections everywhere (e.g., the UK, Poland, Argentina, South Korea and others), revealing widespread dissatisfaction with the status quo. And apparently the US is not exempt from this global trend. Maybe Evan Roth Smith of the Democratic group Blueprint has it right.
It was probably impossible for any Democrat to win, and probably any Republican could have won, because Harris made probably the best possible attempt to win it and Trump made the best possible attempt to lose it.
So, what caused Kamala Harris's shocking defeat? Most likely it was…all of the above.

VICTORY!
Being gracious in victory is more important than being gracious in defeat. We’ll get back to that very important thought. In the meantime WOO HOO!!!! We won!!! Yippee! The cherry on top was how hysterically wrong the analyses based on the polls were! I am not sure which made me more nervous: that Trump might not win or that the stupid polls might actually be right. Broken clocks are right…

Biden Pushes for Urgent Approval of $60 Billion Aid Package for Ukraine Amidst Fears of Trump Victory
In a race against time, the Biden administration is working fervently to secure a $60-billion aid package for Ukraine, facing obstacles from Republicans in Washington’s legislature. The urgency stems from concerns that a potential victory by Donald Trump in the upcoming presidential election could lead to a significant reduction in US financial support for Ukraine’s war effort, as reported by…

This is the only thing I'm going to say about the election until it's over:
Anyone who did not vote for Harris or who attempted to dissuade people from voting for Harris, you are indirectly responsible for whatever shit Donald Trump does if he gets elected. That blood is primarily on his hands, yes. But it is also on yours. I hope you can live with that because I sure as hell wouldn't be able to.
#'but gaza' trump wants TO OBLITERATE THEM. HE LITERALLY WANTS THERE TO BE NOTHING LEFT OF GAZA AT ALL. WHY DO YOU THINK#I DON'T WANT HIM IN POWER?????#yeah I said I wouldn't election post I lied sorry.#I know most of you don't actually care what happens to american citizens because we're all Violent Hypocrites who should kill ourselves#and somehow every single civilian is responsible for the actions of a military and government that comparatively few of us are actually par#of but FUCKING HELL. You don't care about THE PEOPLE OF GAZA??? Because that's what you're telling me if you're in favor of#doing anything OTHER than the most likely path to get trump out of politics. which is voting for the candidate DIRECTLY OPPOSING HIM.#the thing about america being an empire that needs to die. is that before it dies. it is still affecting the rest of the world.#I can't make you care about me and my loved ones. but I am IMPLORING you to have some fucking compassion for all the people#who are going to be DEEPLY negatively affected elsewhere if trump gets into power.#THEIR HARM. THEIR DEATHS. ARE ON /YOU/ IF YOU DID ANYTHING TO FACILITATE TRUMP'S VICTORY IF THAT'S WHAT HAPPENS.#I don't believe most of you actually have any amount of the sympathy and compassion for others you claim to have.#I don't think any of the causes you throw yourself behind are actually meaningful to you. I don't think any of this is based on a#genuine desire to build a better world. I think you just want your Internet friends to think you are a Good Person.#if I see anyone. ANYONE. acting like a trump presidency is what we 'deserve'. or that it's necessary to 'teach [xyz] a lesson'#I am NEVER speaking to you again I don't care how long I've known you.#us politics#I am a disabled queer woman. almost everybody I love is also disabled and queer. you think we're acceptable collateral damage fine.#but don't cry that I'm being a bitch if I say that that makes me not trust you and not want to have anything to do with you.

Donald trump has won. Life still goes on
After the euphoria of Victory, and the joy and relief of knowing I have a peaceful future, life still goes on. And that’s hard for me. Not hard in the sense of surviving, but hard in the sense of my loneliness. I’m still in school, and I have a year and a half left until I can truly be free. A year and a half of feeling that there’s no one I can connect to. I’m pretty much alone. I’m mostly moderate politically, maybe slightly right-wing, but I always aim to be compassionate to people I disagree with. My school is not so, and it’s not their fault. They have a line of traditions and beliefs (see my post ‘It’s not about Halacha anymore’), that are prejudiced, but I can’t control that. It would just be nice if there was someone who I could talk to openly, and someone I can connect with emotionally as well.
The only mature adults in my school are obviously the teachers, and though I haven’t tried, it’s clearly obvious that they’re in their own world. Not to mention the power imbalance. My school is pretty small, and in a religious community, so there’s no one else to reach out to as well, at least no one who can just hear me out. I’m pretty alone, but I’ll make it. I committed to freeing myself from the shackles of loneliness. I’ll make a good life for myself, and hopefully I’ll help others on the way.
And again. Social media isn’t the same as real life. Sometimes I go days without a kind word, maybe a hug if I’m lucky. And I don’t have a sense of connection. It’s hard and somewhat maddening, but I have to make it through.
Our future is secured (At least for the next four years), so stay strong everyone.
I hope I can look back on this and smile.

Reflections on Trump’s Victory and Its Impact on New York City Politics
Reflections on New York After Trump’s Victory Good morning. It’s Tuesday. Today, we’ll take a closer look at the implications of Donald Trump’s recent victory on New York City. As officials in New York grapple with the ramifications of Donald Trump’s win, there is a palpable sense of uncertainty regarding what this shift means for the city’s politics. With the Democratic primary for mayor just…
